Our stories

I took a career *step down* to break into the climate sector. Now I'm a senior leader opening doors.

What was your journey into the climate/environmental sector?

I was established in the corporate world but wanted to focus on climate action. I had to take a pay cut and, unexpectedly, a lower-level role. It felt like starting from scratch, and, I was surprised at the lack of role models and people in senior leadership positions who looked like me.

What challenges have you faced?

Breaking into leadership was tough, and now that I’m here, I feel the responsibility to bring others with me. But I can’t do it alone. Organisations need to step up and be accountable.

How has your identity shaped your experience?

It’s taught me to know my worth and that being “the first” isn’t enough. It’s about making sure I’m not the last. It’s about building lasting change and visibility for others.

What change do you want to see in this space and why does something like PACE Index matter?

I love how PACE Index leads with real stories and centres people usually overlooked. It gives us a safe, honest (and anonymous) space, and gives organisations no excuse to ignore the reality. That’s how real culture shift begins.
